UMC Special Sundays
The connectional giving structure of the United Methodist Church ensures your generosity blesses as many people as possible in sustainable, strategic ways. The United Methodist Church sets aside a number of Special Sundays every year to recognize specific ministries we support as a denomination. There are six Church‐wide special Sundays celebrated on specific dates each year: Human Relations Day: celebrated the Sunday before the observance of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, supports community developers UMCOR Sunday: celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Donations cover United Methodist Committee on Relief operation costs so that 100% of donations received in response to emergency appeals go directly to communities in need. Native American Ministries Sunday: celebrated on the third Sunday of Easter, Donations support scholarships, leadership development and other vital ministries for Native Americans as a vital part of our society. United Methodist Student Day: celebrated in the month of May, recognizes United Methodist students as they pursue their dreams through higher education, through scholarships. Peace with Justice Sunday: celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, supports programs and ministries to educate, equip and mobilize networks to engage in social advocacy and action. World Communion Sunday: celebrated on the first Sunday in October, supports racial and ethnic students with scholarships, grants, mentoring and training for leadership development.

Serving Locally
Emergency Help: Oakwood provides emergency funds for utility and other bills for local families in crisis. Funds are sent directly to the provider of the service needed.
Each Christmas season, Oakwood partners with social services to provide an abundant Christmas for a family in need. Often we help the family throughout the year. This is a joy for our faith community.
Prayer For Those In Need
Oakwood is a praying community. We take seriously the suffering and needs of others and welcome prayer requests.
If you would like to make a prayer request, you may do so weekly during our Sunday service at 11am, or Monday-Friday 7:30am
Tuesday and Thursday 10:00am at the end of each online Prayer and Meditation session.
